Corrective Earlobe and Auricle Surgery

This corrective procedure may be necessary after stretching of the ear piercing or injury to the earlobe (earring too heavy or tear-out) or after other procedures (e.g. adhesion after face lift surgery). The auricle can also be deformed due to a congenital malformation, tumor or accident. Corrections usually lead to very satisfactory results.

Procedure

Surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia. Very extensive procedures also may be carried out under sedation or under general anesthesia. You can be discharged after a few hours.

Depending on the extent of the defect or deformity, the surgical area is carefully prepared and restored to its original shape. The wound is closed with thin nylon sutures, which are removed after 5-7 days.

Ear Pinning Surgery (Otopexy)

Ear pinning (otopexy) is the standard procedure for protruding ears.

Procedure

Surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia. Very extensive procedures also may be carried out under sedation or under general anesthesia. You can be discharged after a few hours.

The excess auricular cartilage is reduced and reshaped at the back of the auricle via skin incision. The wound is closed with thin nylon sutures, which are removed after 5-7 days.

After the procedure, a headband is applied, which should be worn until the sutures are removed.
