Rhinoplasty
(Corrective Nose Surgery)

The correction of the nose is of great importance for the harmonization of the Aesthetic Axis nose - jaw - chin. It may also be necessary as part of orthognathic surgery to optimize facial proportions and normalize nasal breathing.

Procedure

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia but is possible on a day patient basis. You can therefore be discharged a few hours after surgery. Depending on the extent of the procedure, rhinoplasty is divided into two groups:

1. Closed Rhinoplasty

In closed rhinoplasty, the incision is made inside the nose. The procedure does not result in any visible scars, but the surgical field of view is very restricted. Therefore, this procedure is only suitable for surgeries of nasal tip, nostrils and nasal dorsum.

2. Open Rhinoplasty

In open rhinoplasty, the skin incisions in both nostrils are connected by a transverse incision in the posterior part of columella and the entire surgical area is exposed. The columella scar is virtually invisible after healing. Therefore, this technique is used for extensive procedures.

After the procedure, the nose is usually splinted with a splint for one to two weeks. This stabilizes and protects the operated nose.
