CMD Treatment with Botox

According to the German CMD Association, around seven million people in Germany suffer from CMD (craniomandibular dysfunction). The clinical picture is very varied and there is no clearly defined therapy.

Many therapy attempts are made with wafers, physiotherapy and osteopathy and patients are very often dependent on pain killers to cope with everyday life. Occupational disability and personality disorders are the result in very severe cases.

During the widespread aesthetic facial treatment with botulinum toxin A (e.g. Botox®), a side effect of the active ingredient was discovered by chance - the improvement of the clinical condition in patients suffering from CMD.

The treatment is suitable for patients for whom conventional therapy methods, medication or relaxation exercises have had no or insufficient effect.

Other triggers of the pain conditions such as stress, lack of sleep, irregular food intake, weather sensitivity, menstruation, sensory overload and strong emotions cannot be treated with botulinum toxin A.
